Light Brown Apple Moth Update

MAR Opposes Aerial Spraying to Eradicate the Light Brown Apple Moth

The Board of Directors of the Marin Association of REALTORS® (MAR) voted unanimously to oppose the scheduled aerial spraying for the eradication of the light brown apple moth. MAR is believed to be the first REALTOR® association in the region to oppose the spraying.

Noting that the aerial spraying “would be harmful to the quality of life in Marin County”, the resolution approved by the board called on state authorities to instead “conduct an aggressive proactive ground-based eradication program to address the light brown apple moth problem.”

MAR will coordinate its opposition efforts with public officials and other groups and coalitions working to prevent the spraying from taking place.  In a separate resolution, the 16-member board voted unanimously to ask the California Association of REALTORS® to also oppose the spraying.

Gather together, raise awareness and tell Governor Schwarzenegger to protect the health of all Californians and all species from dangerous pesticide use and seek non-toxic alternatives to the spray.

Other REALTOR® associations urged to take a stand

Now that MAR has come out against the aerial spraying to eradicate the light brown apple moth, we are urging other REALTOR® associations across the state to take a stand against it as well.

In an editorial in the Marin Independent Journal it was noted that, "The Marin real estate group's stance, which includes using amended advisory forms to notify buyers of potential spraying, is another indication of growing opposition to the state's controversial eradication strategy.  State officials would be wise to acknowledge the Marin group's concern about the spraying, and perhaps Gov. Schwarzenegger's postponement (of the spraying) will provide that chance."
