Benefits of Membership

What Do I Get as a Member of MAR?

Political Advocacy

Political advocacy is one of the most important services we provide to members.  We continue our fight against laws, legislation and other proposals harmful to the environment, the community and REALTORS®.

Recent MAR lobbying efforts include:

·         Guaranteeing there were no point-of-sale triggers in the green building model ordinance now being considered by cities and towns across the county. We are now lobbying local jurisdictions to ensure there are no point-of-sale provisions in any proposed sewer lateral inspection, repair, or replacement programs. Such provisions are harmful to the environment, our economy, home sellers, home buyers and the escrow process.

·         Working with community groups and organizations to help stop the state of California from continuing its light brown apple moth eradication program, which posed a serious threat to the quality of life here in Marin.

·         Advocating full and complete disclosure by local governments to ensure the public has the information they need to know and make decisions about fee increases and other proposals.

Member Education

MAR is your source for professional education and business management information.

·         MAR offers seminars, workshops and special guest speakers on a wide range of topics, including distressed properties, license renewal, regional economic forecasts and street smart negotiating.

Professional Standards/Dispute Resolution

MAR's Professional Standards program is designed to help with dispute resolution and arbitrations.

Disputes may involve alleged violations of the REALTOR® code of ethics or other issues the public may have when working with the organization's members to buy or sell a home.  MAR also handles arbitrations between members.

To help ensure that all REALTORS® can compete on a level playing field MAR has started issuing citations for violating the NAR Code of Ethics.

This free program for members is conducted in accordance with the policies and procedures of the National Association of REALTORS®.
